Detail

This curriculum will cover measurements, Kinematics-displacement, time, speed, velocity and acceleration, projectile motion; kinetic energy and work, potential energy and conservation of energy;

Newton’s laws of motion and applications of motion, forces, and gravity- normal forces, and contact forces, balanced and unbalanced forces, inclined planes, tension and pulleys on inclined planes, circular motion and centripetal forces, laws of gravitation.

    This curriculum covers but not limited to:

    Circular motion and gravitation

    Circular motion and gravitation: Here we will discuss speed and velocity, acceleration in circular motion; equilibrium, Kepler’s laws of motion, Newton’s laws of gravitation, centripetal forces, gravitational potential energies etc.

    Waves , Sound and Light

    Waves , Sound and Light. Key definitions: wavelength, amplitude, frequency, period, speed; types of waves- transverse and longitudinal waves. Waves produced by sound, light and electromagnetic waves, etc.

    Electricity and magnetism

    Electricity and magnetism: This section focuses on electric charge and force, electric force fields, factors affecting force between two charges and coulomb’s law, insulators and conductors and Gauss’ law. Movement of charges and electric field, energy conversion, electric potential energy, capacitance and capacitors, Ohm’s law etc. Electric current, resistance and resistors, parallel and series circuits. In advance cases, students will learn about magnetic forces and magnetic poles, forces affecting charges, electromagnetic induction; Faraday’s, Ampere’s, Maxwell’s laws etc.

    Momentum

    Momentum and Impulse-conservation of momentum, elastic and inelastic collisions, transfer of momentum, understanding center of mass and gravity.

    Work and energy and power

    Work and energy and power; Types of energy-potential and kinetic energies; conservation and transfer of energy on a spring-Hook’s law and elastic potential energy.

    Newton’s laws

    Newton’s laws of motion and applications of motion, forces, and gravity- normal forces, and contact forces, balanced and unbalanced forces, inclined planes, tension and pulleys on inclined planes, circular motion and centripetal forces, laws of gravitation.

    Measurements

    Measurements, Kinematics-displacement, time, speed, velocity and acceleration, projectile motion; kinetic energy and work, potential energy and conservation of energy.
